In
May 2006, scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have determined the
X-ray structure of EmrD, a multidrug
transporter protein from Escherichia coli (E. coli), a common bacteria known to cause several food-borne
illnesses.
The aim
of this website, then, is to elaborate on the function of EmrD in
relation to its structure. In particular, we have described how the structure
of EmrD enables it to demonstrate multisubstrate
specificity.
